Help @ Haldon

The guys building the trails up at Haldon are always looking for volunteers to chuck a shovel around for a few hours on a Sunday morning.

They are a really friendly group (even more so when tell them you've come to help!) and welcome anyone who comes over to help out or just for a chat.

So if you fancy lending a hand in helping maintain the trails and create some new routes for everyone to use (and maybe getting the chance to ride it before anyone else...), here's how to do it:

How Can I Help?

Stuff going on at the moment includes repairing storm damage, rebuilding northshore and creating a new rock causeway, so if you can use a shovel and have some spare hours on a Sunday morning you'd be more than welcome!

When Does it Happen?

Every Sunday, 10am start

Where Do I meet the Team?

Meet in the Main Car Park at the trail head. A map can be found on the Haldon Forest Park site.

If you are late, head down to the Freeride Area and hook up with the team there

Why Should I Turn Up and Pitch-In?

The trails at Haldon require a lot of ongoing maintenance to keep them open for everyone to ride, and things like storms and general wear and tear mean that they have to be closed for repairs every now and again.

Currently there is a team of only about 6 people (!!) doing all of the work so that you can go and enjoy the riding... The work would get done a lot quicker if a whole load of people turned up every Sunday to help out!

See below for some pics of the storm damage and the work currently happening to repair it (click images for larger versions):

The gully created by the water at the bottom of the Rat Run
The old Rat Run route - You can see the rock bank to the right of the photo, and there used to be a small bridge after it
The whole area has been washed away by the water
The gully cutting across the Rat Run - Beware!
The old Northshore that got smashed up by falling trees (roots visible in the background...)
Work on the new entrance to the section of switchbacks at the bottom of the Red Route
Work on the new rock causeway (replacing the Northshore)
The entrance to the new rock causeway - Not yet complete
The old Northshore - Dismantled and removed
